Relationships between dissolved black carbon and dissolved organic matter in streams

چکیده
Black carbon (BC) is a pyrolyzed product derived from incomplete combustion. A major fraction of BC produced by landscape fires initially deposited onto onsite soils. Atmospheric deposition soot known to be an important source soil BC, especially in watersheds that are not affected fires. The transport the dissolved oxidized soil, defined as black (DBC), streams considered one loss pathways but mechanism well documented. We measured quantity and quality DBC, determined benzenepolycarboxylic acid method, quantitative qualitative parameters bulk organic matter (DOM) Hokkaido, northern Japan, whose catchments were fire for at least 110 years. DBC with relatively low polycondensed signatures occurred streams, irrespective differences watershed characteristics seasons, suggesting atmospheric into catchment probably stream DBC. concentration was linearly related (DOC) concentration, seasons. Furthermore, polycondensation degree observed correlate DOM. Such relationships between DOM imply transfer soils soot-derived linked higher plant-derived, high-molecular-weight aromatic

Black Carbon in Estuarine and Coastal Ocean Dissolved Organic Matter
We measured black carbon (BC) in ultrafiltered, high–molecular weight dissolved organic matter (UDOM) in surface waters of Delaware Bay, Chesapeake Bay, and the adjacent Atlantic Ocean (U.S.A.) to investigate the importance of riverine and estuarine dissolved organic matter (DOM) as a source of BC to the ocean. BC was 5– 72% of UDOM-C (27 6 17%), which corresponds to 8.9 6 6.5% of dissolved org...
متن کاملRelationships between colored dissolved organic matter and dissolved organic carbon in different coastal gradients of the Baltic Sea
Due to high terrestrial runoff, the Baltic Sea is rich in dissolved organic carbon (DOC), the light-absorbing fraction of which is referred to as colored dissolved organic matter (CDOM). Inputs of DOC and CDOM are predicted to increase with climate change, affecting coastal ecosystems. We found that the relationships between DOC, CDOM, salinity, and Secchi depth all differed between the two coa...

متن کاملTemperature Dependence of Photodegradation of Dissolved Organic Matter to Dissolved Inorganic Carbon and Particulate Organic Carbon
Photochemical transformation of dissolved organic matter (DOM) has been studied for more than two decades. Usually, laboratory or "in-situ" experiments are used to determine photodegradation variables. A common problem with these experiments is that the photodegradation experiments are done at higher than ambient temperature. Five laboratory experiments were done to determine the effect of temp...
متن کاملDissolved organic carbon and nitrogen in the Western Black Sea
Dissolved organic carbon and nitrogen (DOC and DON) concentrations were measured in the Black Sea during May–June 2001. Sampling was conducted along a Shelf–Gyre transect, and was focused at the suboxic–anoxic interface at the deep stations; hypotheses were tested regarding trends in these variables across the transect and between sub-surface water layers. DOC and DON concentrations were higher...
